A Worcester resident has pleaded guilty in federal court to charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. Gilbert Morin, 39, entered his plea before U.S. District Court Judge Margaret R. Guzman, who set sentencing for April 23, 2026. Morin was indicted by a federal grand jury in September 2025.
The case stems from an incident on May 30, 2025, when police responded to reports of a man with a firearm outside a downtown nightclub in Worcester. Although the suspect was not found at the scene, officers later saw an individual acting suspiciously nearby and attempted to stop him. The man, identified as Morin, fled on foot through Worcester Common behind City Hall but was apprehended by police. Authorities discovered he had a loaded Taurus pistol at the time of arrest.
Morin has a prior conviction for an offense punishable by more than one year in prison and has been held in custody since his arrest on May 30, 2025.
The charge carries a potential penalty of up to 15 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and up to $250,000 in fines. Sentencing decisions are made by federal judges based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutory considerations.
“United States Attorney Leah B. Foley; Thomas Greco, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Boston Field Division; and Paul Saucier, Chief of the Worcester Police Department made the announcement today.” Assistant U.S. Attorney Kaitlin J. Brown is prosecuting the case.
The investigation was led by the Boston Homeland Security Task Force as part of Operation Take Back America—a federal initiative established under Executive Order 14159 that focuses resources from agencies such as the Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security to combat illegal immigration and violent crime nationwide.
