A Salvadoran national living in Chelsea, Massachusetts, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly reentering the United States illegally after deportation. Rigoberto Hernandez Mancia, 34, faces one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien following his arrest by immigration authorities on May 12, 2025.
The charging document states that Hernandez Mancia was deported from the United States on July 31, 2024. It is alleged that he returned to the country without permission sometime after this date.
If convicted, Hernandez Mancia could face up to two years in prison, one year of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. Following any sentence imposed, he would be subject to deportation. Sentencing decisions are made by a federal district court judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. Assistant U.S. Attorney Allegra Flamm from the Major Crimes Unit is handling the prosecution.
It is important to note that the details provided in the charging documents are allegations at this stage. The defendant remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
