Jake Miller, a 42-year-old resident of Natick and owner of Kostas Roofing, was sentenced in federal court for tax evasion after concealing $1.6 million in income from the Internal Revenue Service. U.S. District Court Judge Brian E. Murphy sentenced Miller to one year and one day in prison, followed by one year of supervised release. Miller was also ordered to pay $449,329 in restitution.
Miller operated his roofing business under the alias “Paul Kostas.” From 2013 to 2021, he cashed checks from customers and deposited the money into his personal bank accounts. During this period, he did not file any income tax returns despite earning at least $1.6 million from his business activities. This resulted in an estimated tax loss of about $450,000.
In February 2025, Miller pleaded guilty to one count of tax evasion.
“United States Attorney Leah B. Foley; Tom Demeo, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Internal Revenue Service’s Criminal Investigation in Boston; and Ketty Larco-Ward, Inspector in Charge of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service’s Boston Division, made the announcement today.”
Assistant U.S. Attorney David M. Holcomb prosecuted the case.
