A Honduran national living in Lynn, Massachusetts, has been sentenced to seven months in prison for unlawfully reentering the United States after deportation. Douglas Mejia-Romero, 45, received his sentence from U.S. District Court Judge Myong J. Joun in federal court in Boston. Following his prison term, Mejia-Romero will be subject to two years of supervised release and is set to be deported upon completion of his sentence.
Mejia-Romero pleaded guilty in May 2025 to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. According to court records, he was previously deported on May 15, 2020, but returned illegally at an unspecified time afterward. Authorities stated that between 2008 and 2020, Mejia-Romero was removed from the United States five times and unlawfully reentered after each removal.
This marks Mejia-Romero’s third conviction for illegal reentry. In May 2015, he was convicted in the District of New Hampshire and sentenced to nine months in prison with two years of supervised release. He faced another conviction for illegal reentry in April 2020 in federal court in Texas and received a six-month prison sentence.
“United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Acting Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston made the announcement.” “Assistant U.S. Attorney Suzanne Sullivan Jacobus of the Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.”
