A Honduran national residing in Brockton has been sentenced for unlawfully reentering the United States after deportation. Oscar Lopez, also known as “Luis Maldonado,” was sentenced by U.S. District Court Chief Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV to time served, approximately two and a half months, followed by one year of supervised release. Upon completion of his sentence, Lopez is subject to deportation.

Lopez pleaded guilty in May 2025 to one count of unlawful reentry. He originally entered the United States illegally in 2003 and failed to appear for an immigration court date that same year, leading to a removal order. After evading authorities for nearly ten years, he was located and removed from the country in January 2013.

Lopez reentered the United States without permission shortly after his first removal and was again removed in May 2013. At some point following this second removal, he illegally returned once more. His presence came to light when state authorities arrested him in March and April 2024 for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and providing false identification to law enforcement. Immigration officials arrested him in April 2025.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of Boston’s U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations. Assistant U.S. Attorney John J. Reynolds prosecuted the case.
