A Honduran national living in Waltham, Massachusetts, was sentenced in federal court in Boston for illegally reentering the United States after being deported. Samuel Cruz Alvarado, 63, received a sentence of time served, which amounted to three and a half months. He is now subject to deportation proceedings.
Cruz Alvarado pleaded guilty in August 2025 to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. He was arrested on May 5, 2025, and indicted by a federal grand jury the following month. According to court records, Cruz Alvarado had previously been deported from the United States twice, most recently on November 26, 2012. After his last removal, he returned to the country without authorization.
The sentencing was announced by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Acting Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. Assistant U.S. Attorney Allegra Flamm from the Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.
