A Honduran national living in Fall River, Massachusetts, was sentenced in federal court for illegally reentering the United States after being deported multiple times. Denis Aguirre-Murillo, 40, received a four-month prison sentence and two years of supervised release from U.S. District Court Judge Leo T. Sorokin on November 12, 2025. After serving his sentence, Aguirre-Murillo will be subject to deportation.
Aguirre-Murillo pleaded guilty in September 2025 to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. He had been indicted by a federal grand jury in July 2025.
Authorities reported that Aguirre-Murillo had previously been removed from the United States three times: in July 2007, March 2016, and January 2021. Following his last removal in January 2021, he returned to the U.S. at an unknown time and location.
On May 4, 2024, immigration officials discovered Aguirre-Murillo’s presence after he was arrested under an alias in Fall River on charges including intimidation and rape; the rape charge was later amended to indecent assault and battery. An immigration detainer was issued for him at that time.
Despite this detainer, Aguirre-Murillo was released from state custody without notification on February 19, 2025. Authorities located him again and took him into immigration custody on May 29, 2025.
United States Attorney Leah B. Foley stated: “United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston made the announcement.” The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mackenzie A. Queenin of the Criminal Division.
