A Honduran national living in Waltham, Massachusetts, has pleaded guilty in federal court to illegally reentering the United States after being deported. Samuel Cruz Alvarado, 63, admitted to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. His sentencing will be scheduled at a later date.

Cruz Alvarado was arrested on May 5, 2025, and indicted by a federal grand jury in June 2025. He had previously been deported from the United States on November 26, 2012. Authorities say he returned to the country without permission sometime after his removal.

The charge carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison, one year of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. After serving any imposed sentence, Cruz Alvarado is subject to deportation. Sentencing decisions are made by a federal district court judge following the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.

“United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Acting Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston made the announcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney Allegra Flamm of the Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.”
