A Guatemalan national living in Dorchester, Massachusetts was sentenced on April 9 to 13 years in prison for unlawfully reentering the United States and possessing child sexual abuse material. The sentencing took place before U.S. District Court Judge Angel Kelley.
The case highlights concerns over illegal reentry into the country and crimes involving minors. After serving his sentence, the defendant will face deportation proceedings.
Miguel Gomez-Lopez, also known as Miguel Hernandez, age 32, pleaded guilty in December 2025 to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien and two counts of possession of child pornography. He was arrested in June 2023 following a police well-being check at his Dorchester apartment that led to the discovery of two missing fourteen-year-old girls. One girl was found exiting the apartment with Gomez-Lopez as police arrived; the other was located inside a bedroom appearing intoxicated and partially undressed. Authorities later found nude photographs and videos of one minor on Gomez-Lopez’s phone. Another individual involved with one of the minors has since been charged and deported.
Investigators determined that Gomez-Lopez is a citizen of Guatemala who had previously been removed from the United States twice—first ordered removed in September 2017, then encountered again by U.S. Border Patrol just six weeks later before being deported a second time.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley; Ted E. Docks, Special Agent in Charge for the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Boston Division; David T. Wesling, Acting Field Office Director for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston; along with Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox.
