A Guatemalan national has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Boston for unlawfully reentering the United States after being deported. The individual, Edilsaro Romeo Mauricio Temaj, aged 26, faces one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien.

According to the charging documents, Mauricio was found in the United States on or about December 14, 2024, after having been deported to Guatemala approximately on July 31, 2024.

The charge carries potential penalties including up to two years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine up to $250,000. Additionally, upon completion of any sentence imposed, the defendant will be subject to deportation. Sentences are determined by a federal district court judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutes that govern criminal case sentencing.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren Maynard from the Major Crimes Unit.

It is important to note that the details contained in the charging documents are allegations at this stage. The defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
