Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell responded to a recent federal court decision that temporarily blocks the Trump Administration from requiring states to recover Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits previously authorized. The benefits in question were provided following a court order in Rhode Island and guidance from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). A hearing on the matter is scheduled for later today.

In her statement, AG Campbell said, “The federal government has proven that it cares more about its political agenda than making sure our residents can put food on the table. I am grateful that the Court has temporarily blocked the Trump Administration from ordering states to claw back critical resources from the children, elders, veterans, and people with disabilities who need them. We’ll keep fighting until this Administration stops using our residents as political bargaining chips.”

The temporary block comes after Campbell, along with 22 other attorneys general and three governors, filed a motion for a temporary restraining order in an ongoing lawsuit against the Trump Administration. The lawsuit challenges actions that would suspend SNAP benefits for over 42 million Americans who depend on them for food assistance.
