An Ecuadorian national, who had been residing illegally in Yarmouth, was sentenced in a Boston federal court for unlawfully reentering the United States after deportation. Jose Tomas Lema Pugo, also known as Jose Luis Ledezma, aged 59, received a sentence of time served, which amounts to approximately six weeks in prison, and one year of supervised release from U.S. District Court Judge Leo T. Sorokin. Upon completing his sentence, Lema Pugo will face deportation.

Earlier in the proceedings, Lema Pugo admitted guilt to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. He was apprehended by immigration authorities on May 9, 2025, and subsequently indicted by a federal grand jury in June 2025.

Lema Pugo was previously deported to Ecuador in November 2013 but reentered the United States without permission sometime thereafter.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Zacks from the Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.
