An Ecuadorian national, Luis Ernesto Caguana-Caguana, was sentenced in Boston for unlawfully reentering the United States after being deported. U.S. District Court Judge Allison D. Burroughs sentenced Caguana-Caguana, 33, to time served, which amounted to approximately 37 days in prison. Following his sentence, he is now subject to deportation proceedings.
Earlier during the court hearing, Caguana-Caguana pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. Records show that he had previously been deported from the United States on March 6, 2014 and later returned without permission.
United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston announced the sentencing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexandra W. Amrhein of the Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.
