Dorchester man pleads guilty to illegal gun possession as convicted felon

A Dorchester resident, Rickey Simmons, age 46, has admitted to unlawfully possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon. He pleaded guilty to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition before U.S. District Court Senior Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV. The sentencing is set for March 6, 2026.

Simmons was initially charged in January 2025 and indicted by a federal grand jury the following month. According to court documents, on January 28, 2025, Simmons had a Tisas Model Zig M1911 .45 caliber firearm, eight rounds of .45 caliber ammunition, and nine rounds of .22 caliber ammunition despite his prior felony conviction.

The offense carries a maximum penalty of up to 15 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine that could reach $250,000. Sentencing decisions will be made according to the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Thomas Greco, Special Agent in Charge at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives announced the plea. Assistant United States Attorneys Mark Grady and Allegra Flamm from the Major Crimes Unit are handling the prosecution.
