A Dominican national, Carlos Yuniol Pimentel-Ortiz, was sentenced in federal court in Boston for illegally reentering the United States after being deported. U.S. District Court Judge Myong J. Joun sentenced Pimentel-Ortiz, 38, to 15 months in prison followed by one year of supervised release. After serving his sentence, he will be subject to deportation.

Pimentel-Ortiz had previously pleaded guilty on October 14, 2025, to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. He was originally deported from the United States in November 2023. Before his removal, he had been convicted in Essex Superior Court in November 2020 for assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a firearm without a license, and possessing ammunition without a license. In October 2022, he was also convicted in Middlesex Superior Court for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.

After being removed from the country in November 2023, Pimentel-Ortiz returned without permission. In March 2025, agents executing a drug search warrant at a Boston location found him present and determined that he was unlawfully in the United States. He was taken into custody at that time.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston announced the sentencing. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert E. Richardson of the Major Crimes Unit.
