A Dominican national living unlawfully in Lawrence, Massachusetts, was sentenced on April 2 in federal court in Boston for reentering the United States after being deported.

Jose Alberto Tejeda Turbi, age 46, received an 18-month prison sentence from U.S. District Court Judge Allison D. Burroughs. He will also serve two years of supervised release and is subject to deportation after completing his sentence. In March, Tejeda Turbi pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien following his indictment by a federal grand jury in January.

Court records show that Tejeda Turbi was previously convicted in July 2015 for heroin distribution and conspiracy charges and sentenced to five years in prison with four years of supervised release. He was removed from the United States upon finishing that sentence in March 2020.

Authorities said that at some point after his removal, Tejeda Turbi returned illegally without permission. In June 2024, he was sentenced by Lawrence District Court to two years’ imprisonment for assault and battery resulting in serious bodily injury and given three years of probation on other charges.

The sentencing announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and David T. Wesling, Acting Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations office in Boston. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brad A. Rocheville prosecuted the case.
