A Dominican national residing illegally in Dorchester, Massachusetts, has been sentenced in federal court for identity theft. Luis Alison Roa Lara, aged 42, was given a 27-month prison sentence by U.S. District Court Judge Allison D. Burroughs. Following his prison term, he will face one year of supervised release and is subject to deportation proceedings.

Roa Lara pleaded guilty in March 2025 to charges including making a false statement on a U.S. passport application, aggravated identity theft, and misuse of a Social Security number. His arrest took place in August 2024.

For almost ten years, Roa Lara used the personal information of a Puerto Rican citizen to acquire a Massachusetts driver’s license and attempted to secure a U.S. passport using the same misappropriated details.

The case was announced by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Matthew O’Brien, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service at the Boston Field Office. They acknowledged assistance from several agencies including the U.S. Department of State Diplomatic Security Service’s Detroit Resident Office, the United States Postal Inspection Service, and the Lorain Police Department in Ohio. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian Sullivan handled the prosecution.
