A Dominican national, Antonio Gonzales, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for unlawfully reentering the United States after being deported. The 53-year-old is charged with one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. He was arrested on May 7, 2025, and is scheduled to appear in federal court in Boston on June 23, 2025.
According to the charging documents, Gonzales had previously been convicted of a felony and was deported from the United States on September 15, 2004. It is alleged that he illegally reentered the country without permission sometime after his removal.
The charge carries a potential sentence of up to ten years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. Upon completion of any sentence imposed, Gonzales would be subject to deportation again. Sentences are determined by a federal district court judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric L. Hawkins from the Major Crime Unit is handling the prosecution.
It is important to note that the details provided in the charging documents are allegations at this stage. Gonzales remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
