James Adams, also known as “Jimmy,” was sentenced on March 21 in federal court in Boston to more than 12 years in prison for his involvement in a methamphetamine trafficking ring. U.S. District Court Judge F. Dennis Saylor, IV sentenced the Byfield resident to 151 months of imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release.

Adams pleaded guilty in December 2025 to possession with intent to distribute at least 50 grams of methamphetamine and conspiracy charges related to the same drug quantity. The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat large-scale drug distribution networks operating in Eastern Massachusetts.

According to federal authorities, Adams was one of four individuals charged as part of an investigation into a group associated with the Unknown Bikers Motorcycle Club. Law enforcement began looking into the operation around October 2023 after receiving information about a significant supplier distributing crystal methamphetamine throughout Eastern Massachusetts. Investigators identified Adams as a key distributor and conducted controlled purchases from him and his co-conspirators: James Snow of Tewksbury, Danielle Steenbruggen of Peabody, and Daniel Loughman of Wakefield. During the investigation, authorities seized approximately ten pounds of methamphetamine and four firearms through controlled buys, vehicle stops, and search warrants.

Adams is the second defendant sentenced in this case. Steenbruggen received a sentence of 93 months after pleading guilty last August; Snow pleaded guilty on December 1 and is scheduled for sentencing on March 23; Loughman pleaded guilty on December 2 with sentencing set for April 1.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley along with officials from several federal agencies including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives; Homeland Security Investigations; Drug Enforcement Administration; United States Postal Inspection Service; Massachusetts State Police; Wakefield Police Department; as well as local police departments from Newbury, Newburyport, Haverhill and Peabody who provided assistance.
