A Brazilian national residing unlawfully in Worcester, Massachusetts, has admitted guilt in a federal court for reentering the United States illegally after being deported. Thiago Aquino-De Paula, 33, pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. U.S. District Court Judge Margaret R. Guzman has set the sentencing date for August 28, 2025.

Aquino-De Paula had been deported from the United States on three prior occasions, including on or about November 4, 2021. After his last removal, he reentered the country without authorization and was discovered in Massachusetts following an arrest in Uxbridge for allegedly operating under the influence.

The charge carries a potential sentence of up to two years in prison, followed by one year of supervised release and a fine that could reach $250,000. Upon completing any imposed sentence, Aquino-De Paula faces deportation once again. Sentences are determined by a federal district court judge according to the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kaitlin J. Brown from the Worcester Branch Office is handling the prosecution.
