A Boston resident has pleaded guilty in federal court to failing to register as a sex offender. Adrian Martinez, 56, entered the plea before U.S. District Court Judge Leo T. Sorokin, who set sentencing for October 28, 2025.

Martinez was previously convicted while serving in the United States Navy in April 1998 of sodomy with a person under the age of 12, four counts of taking indecent liberties upon the body of a female under 12 years old, and assault with intent to rape a person under the age of 12. He received a sentence of 40 years but was released from custody after approximately 11 years in February 2009.

After his release, Martinez was required to register as a sex offender and report any changes in address or employment. Authorities say that after September 30, 2022, he moved out of his Boston residence without notifying law enforcement about his new address. Efforts by Boston Police to contact him were unsuccessful.

Martinez faces up to ten years in prison, at least five years and up to lifetime supervised release, and a fine that could reach $250,000. Sentencing will be determined according to federal guidelines and statutory factors.

“United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Kevin Neal, Acting United States Marshal for the District of Massachusetts made the announcement today. Assistant U.S. Attorney Luke A. Goldworm, Project Safe Childhood Coordinator and a member of the Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.”

The prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative started by the Department of Justice in 2006 aimed at protecting children from exploitation and abuse by coordinating efforts among federal, state, and local agencies.
