An Ashland man, Brent Vreeland, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Boston on charges related to child sexual abuse material. The 36-year-old faces counts of transportation, receipt, and possession of child pornography. Vreeland is scheduled for arraignment in federal court in Boston on July 17, 2025.

The indictment follows an incident at Boston’s Logan Airport where Vreeland was flagged for secondary screening upon returning from Reykjavik, Iceland in October 2024. Authorities allege that images and videos depicting child sexual abuse material were found on his cell phone within the Telegram Messenger app. Further forensic examination reportedly uncovered approximately 30 media files involving direct messages with unknown users. It is also alleged that Vreeland received and distributed videos showing the abuse of minors aged four to ten years old.

Each charge carries severe penalties including potential prison sentences ranging from five to twenty years, supervised release up to a lifetime, and fines up to $250,000. Sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Michael J. Krol, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in New England announced the indictment. Customs and Border Patrol’s Boston Division provided assistance while Assistant U.S. Attorney Allegra Flamm is prosecuting the case.

This case forms part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide since its launch in May 2006.

The allegations remain unproven until confirmed beyond reasonable doubt in court.
